Healthy Waters Institute Associate Director
Overview
Oregon Trout, a non-profit education and conservation organization, seeks an energetic, skilled and experienced individual to sustain and improve the Healthy Waters Institute (HWI). HWI is a very ambitious watershed education program committed to forging a lifelong, caretaking bond between students and their local watersheds ensuring stream health for generations. The successful candidate will be ready to unite and motivate a diverse mix of educational and community partners and demonstrate a willingness to get the job done. This full-time position reports to the HWI Director.
Responsibilities
Participate in aspects of the Institute including, but not limited to:
- Continued development of key components of the Institute.
- Building and maintaining strong, cooperative relationships with participating educators and community partners.
- Managing coordination of Portland Metro Salmon Watch® program.
- Advocating for statewide initiatives to support environmental education.
- Leading students, teachers and volunteers in programs and projects.
- Providing support to teachers, schools and districts in integrating multi-disciplinary watershed education.
Qualifications
Necessary
- Proven ability to work creatively and cooperatively with a broad spectrum of people, including teachers, volunteers, school children, and the general public.
- Proven practice in cooperative ventures linking diverse partners with challenging timelines and aggressive outcomes.
- Proven commitment to and experience with conservation education.
- Demonstrated experience recruiting and training volunteers.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Advanced degree(s) in related fields, and/or commensurate work experience.
- Proven ability to bring a positive attitude, sense of humor, and strong work ethic to an ambitious task.
- Ability and willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends and to travel overnight as needed.
- Computer proficiency.
Desirable
- Significant experience as a teacher and administrator of classroom and field-based educational programs.
- Ability to lead groups of students in restoration projects.
- Working knowledge of the State of Oregon; its politics, lands, and education systems.
- Experience in a natural resources field.
Compensation: Competitive, not-for-profit salary and benefits.
